Poker as an extra source of incomeWhen you don't want to become a fulltime poker professional, you can still consider it as a parttime job. Things are then much easier, because you can rely on safe income from your main job. With the additional income from playing poker you can pay your extras like vacations or save some money for later.
What do you need to become a parttime pro ?
You beat the game at your level, so will show a profit.
You will have a big enough bankroll, so you will never go broke. Even during downswings.
You have enough time, so that you comfortably combine main job, family, spare time and side job.
You have all necessary information to get optimal bonuses and rakeback.
The biggest problem will be to become a winning player at your desired level. To be honest. To consider yourself as a parttime poker professional, you should be able to beat at least the following levels:
Only at these levels you will be able to show a decent profit (let's say $1.000 - $2.000 per month) by playing poker. Everything else we would consider as a nice hobby, but not more. This may be a little harsh, but we regard the semipro as a first step towards the fulltime pro. You should proof yourself that you are able to show these decent profits over some months before you can dare to try the bigger step.
As said, the big advantage of a parttime pro is, that you still have a reliable source of income.
But as you see in this globalized world today, you can lose your decent job very fast. Your company cannot compete with cheap producers in China and they have to fire people. Everyone else but not me, thought many people. But this often was an illusion.
As a parttime poker professional, you will have then still something to do and some $$ to survive until the next job offer. When you are over 40 the time to the next job may be longer than expected. But, the online poker rooms are open 24/7.
So don't worry then. Improve your game and perpare the next step. |
